Turtle and the Hare 2008 Snowpack

Monday, May 12th, 2008

I love the story of the Turtle and the Hare. I know I need to be consistently reminded to slow down to win the race. Lucky for those living in the Stanley Basin our 125% snow pack has heard this story too. Typical temps for May usually are hovering around the 60’s and 70’s. Last year on our training trip on the Salmon it was close to 90 degrees. This year you can count on one hand the day’s that it has been warmer than 50. What does this mean for those wanting to raft the Salmon River this year? Great water flows. Our river rafting trips are always a good time, but the more water the better. Low elevation snows are off and we have our higher elevation snows ready to come off nice and easy, which translates into great water flows all summer long.

Hope to see you all this summer.

River Rafting Trips and Gourmet foodThe River Company was proud to host the Stanley stop for Taste and Tour Idaho, a media tour of Idaho highlighting Idaho food and wine. After touring Idaho’s wine country and vineyards the team of writers and Idaho representatives was ready for a bit of Idaho whitewater adventure. Not to be outdone by the rest of the tour, we served Organic Lava Lake lamb, All-natural Snake River Farms beef, fresh Idaho grown potatoes, and locally grown greens. Although this menu is not our daily trip offering, if you are looking for a private group rafting trip we would love to accommodate you. (more…)
